Abstract

|
Acylated chitosan derivatives with several kind of acy1 chain lengh were synthesized. To synthsize highly acylated chitosan derivatives, N-acylation and O-acylation were conducted respectively. Methanesulfonic acid was used in O-acylation. Using trough monolayers of the acylated chitosan derivatives were formed. Limiting area per glucose unit and temperature dependence of fl-A curves were determined. As the temperature is raised, the surface pressure at breaking point of monolayer is decreased and the limiting area per glucosamine unit is also decreased. Multilayers were prepared by horizontal dipping method.
